If while you download a character, it downloads as a text or HTML file instead of a character (.avb) file, this is due to the server settings   of the server that the file is being hosted on. Here's how
to recover it!
Method 1: This method is strongly suggested To download these you have to: - RIGHT CLICK on the download link and select 'SAVE TARGET AS..' - Change 'File name' extension from .HTML to .AVB - Change the 'Save as type' line to "ALL FILES" for the file type. - Once the download is completed into your 'Download' folder, you must then copy (or cut) and paste your .AVB files to Microsoft Comic Chat's 'ComicArt' folder! - Your new downloaded files are now ready for use!
Method 2:
6 March 2020 Update: This method is outdated! Please use Method 1 1. Allow it to complete it's download.
2. From your "Windows Start Button" go to "Programs" and open your
"Windows Explorer".
3. In "Windows Explorer" go to "C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Files".
Find the character.avb file that you just downloaded. (It
will usually be toward the very end of the file if you
are doing this right after the download completed).
4. Right click on the file and select "Copy".
5. While still in "Windows Explorer," go to the "C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Chat\ Comicart" folder. Right click on
the folder and select "Paste". { or "C:\Program
Files\Chat\Comicart" }
6. At this point, your new character file will turn into an .html file.
So with the "Comicart" folder open, find the new
character and right click it and select "rename" and
rename it back to it's name and ".avb" extension.
Example: "Duckie.html" change back to "Duckie.avb"
(Disregard the warning 'pop-up' window and select "yes" to change
the file).
7. You're now finished and ready to enjoy the new character!
